Independence House building gets a facelift

Major renovation and extension works on the Independence House building are expected to be completed by June 2026.

Minister for Land and Housing Billy Rangasamy made the comments during an interview with the media yesterday afternoon at the construction site of the new ground plus three floors building being constructed adjacent to the Independence House building.

According to Minister Rangasamy, since its construction in 1983, the Independence House has seen a gradual deterioration of its core infrastructure from its air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and fire alarms system, to the toilet facilities and roofing. The building has become unsuitable for both staff and visitors, prompting a much-needed renovation that will ensure a safer and more welcoming environment, he noted. Renovation work will also take place at the Independence House Annex, which opened in June 2016.
