Seychelles Football Federation: League One roundup |26 March 2025
Au Cap keep promotion hopes alive
Elias Jr Amos Larue scored two goals to help Au Cap down West Boys at Stad Popiler on Monday night and temporarily place his team in second place on the League One table.
Au Cap’s few hiccups throughout the season left them prey to Anse Royale who with a 100 percent winning run were guaranteed a place above them. However, with a match against Anse Royale ahead of them, Au Cap still have their fate in their hands. But this depends on victories in their other matches such as their contest against West Boys on Monday evening.
With a good defensive record combined with a clinical offensive threat, West Boys were not to be underestimated. As expected, the match was tight from the start with little room available for attackers to do their tricks.
In the 43rd minute, Au Cap’s Elias Jr Amos Larue found himself in enough space and he slotted home the only goal of the first half as Au Cap went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
After the restart, the two teams went at it again with the same vitality, revived by the half-time break.
Au Cap held their lead and as time went on that lead looked enough for the three points, but West Boys conceded a penalty in the 84th minute.
Although the initial penalty was missed, Elias Jr Amos Larue converted the rebound to give his team a 2-0 lead. That was also the final goal of the match as Au Cap secured three more points in their chase for promotion. Au Cap now have two games remaining against Anse Royale and Bel Ombre.
Mont Buxton disqualified
The first League One match last weekend was scheduled for Saturday evening between Mont Buxton and St Louis Challengers.
It was quite clear that Mont Buxton did not have the required number of players. Fielding 11 players for a match was a continual problem for Mont Buxton but they had enough players for matches to be played.
Only once had they forfeited a match before kick-off this season and that meant another loss by forfeiture would see them eliminated from the tournament as per the Seychelles Football Federation league regulations.
As game time approached, the match was eventually called in favour of St Louis Challengers who did not only complete the double against Mont Buxton with a first-round 7-2 victory, but witnessed their elimination from the league entirely.
Mavericks beat Glacis
On Sunday afternoon, Mavericks and Glacis went head-to-head. These two sides had suffered from a disappointing season and as such found themselves in the bottom half of the table.
With a winnable match ahead they both arrived at Stad Popiler focused on their intentions. In the end, Mavericks won the match on a 2-0 score.
The young Mavericks side looked the sharper side and in the 18th minute they were rewarded when Aaron Stephen Payet made it 1-0.
Payet was now motivated and three minutes later he got his second goal of the match.
The two goals were enough to give Mavericks a much-needed win which propelled them to seventh position on the table.
