IndiGo to launch direct flights to Seychelles, enhancing air connectivity |21 February 2025

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, will commence direct flights from Mumbai, India to Seychelles on March 22, 2025
The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), has announced that IndiGo, India’s largest airline, will commence direct flights from Mumbai, India to Seychelles on March 22, 2025 with four flights per week, and subsequent plans to increase frequency later in the year.
This announcement was made by an IndiGo representative during a technical mission to Seychelles last week, following months of intensive negotiations with the Indian authorities. This represents a major success in strengthening air connectivity between the two countries while enhancing Seychelles’ position as a key destination.
The involvement of SCAA has been pivotal throughout the negotiation process, ensuring that all regulatory, operational and technical aspects were aligned to facilitate the introduction of this new service. Their expertise and commitment have played a central role in securing this agreement, which is expected to increase visitor arrivals and boost the tourism sector, a key pillar of Seychelles’ economy.
The Minister for Transport, Antony Derjacques, welcomed the announcement, stating: “The introduction of direct flights by IndiGo to Seychelles reflects our dedication to fostering strong bilateral relations with key international partners. This new service will not only facilitate greater people-to-people exchanges but also open new avenues for trade, tourism, and investment. Increasing flight frequency later in the year will further solidify Seychelles’ position as a preferred destination.”
Echoing the minister’s sentiments, Gary Albert, chief executive of SCAA, highlighted the authority’s commitment to expanding Seychelles’ air transport network: “The Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority has worked closely with the Ministry of Transport and IndiGo to ensure a seamless process for these new flights. This development is a testament to our ongoing efforts to strengthen Seychelles’ connectivity with key markets and support sustainable growth in the aviation and tourism sectors.”
IndiGo’s new route will cater to the growing demand for travel between Seychelles and India, providing greater accessibility and convenience for both business and leisure travellers.
In 2024, the number of incoming travellers from India to Seychelles reached almost 3,000. SCAA foresees, with the addition of IndiGo Airlines, a notable increase of traffic between Seychelles and India, especially during the winter season.
The Ministry of Transport and the SCAA remain committed to fostering initiatives that drive connectivity and economic growth.
Further details on the inaugural flight schedule and ticket availability will be communicated in due course.
