Sifco voices out concern over alleged kidnapping attempts |13 February 2025
The Seychelles Interfaith Council (Sifco) has strongly condemned the alleged attempts of kidnapping of school children outside the school gates.
In a press release, the council said those acts of violence have sent shock waves across our communities, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of our children, while it calls for immediate investigations and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice rapidly, so that there is a full-stop to such heinous acts.
“We urge the authorities to give this case its utmost priority as the safety and wellbeing of our children and citizens should not be compromised,” the press release stated.
Sifco urges the police, law enforcement officers, schools, parents, children and communities to unite and work together to ensure our children are always safe, while also asking the population, whatever their faith may be, to join collectively in prayer in the spirit of love for our fellow human brothers and sisters and support our fellow citizens in restoring peace and security in and around our school compounds.
Sifco also calls for greater awareness and joint efforts to educate the public on how to recognise
potential threats to children and report them immediately to the authorities, while it strongly advises the student community to be vigilant when approached by strangers and not to entertain any dialogue or interaction with them.
“Also report to your parents, and/or school authorities any such suspicious movements,” the press release further stated.
“Let us all stand together in the name of justice, peace, unity and solidarity to ensure that our children
always feel safe and that parents can rest assured of their security at all times,” it concluded.
