Seychelles lose to Rodrigues on penalty shootout
The Seychelles under-15 selection concluded the Union des Fédérations de Football de l'Océan Indien (UFFOI) which took place in Mauritius with a defeat on after penalty shootout against Rodrigues in the plate consolation match at the MFA Astro-turf pitch in Trianon, Quatre-Bornes on Thursday.
Seychelles qualified for the plate match after finishing fourth in the group, before losing 1-2 to Mayotte in the plate consolation semifinal.
In Thursday’s match, the boys of coach Marc Mathiot started well, taking the lead in the 25th minute through a Jahni Nourrice goal.
Rodrigues equalised in the 73rd minute through Riano Jean Ravinia to send the match into added time.
With no goal scored, a penalty shootout was the last resort and Seychelles los 3-5.
Reunion are this year’s winners after defeating Djibouti 2-0 in the final through a brace by Lamoly Noam who was also awarded as the tournament’s top scorer.
Reunion also received the tournament’s Fair Play award.
Madagascar finished third, after defeating hosts Mauritius 3-2 in the consolation match.
