Belle, Freminot win gruelling races
Geno Belle is the winner of this year’s Mahé Crazy Challenge, succeeding Malagasy Gerard Jaomaro who had held the title for the past two years – 2017 and 2018 – while Nelda Freminot is the women’s champion.
Belle won Saturday’s race in 9 hours 19 minutes 31.6 seconds (9h19:31.6) but his time was way off the standing record of 8h52:09 belonging to James Barra since 2012.
Second in Saturday’s race was Samuel Vidot with a time of 9h19:53.6 and Gerard Jaomaro completed the medals podium after clocking 9h51:28 to take third place.
In the women’s race, Nelda Freminot triumphed in 12h52:50.2 followed in second place by Brenda Larue in 12h54:44.4. Third was Florise Ernesta with 13h16:00.3.
The women’s record stands at 11h41:44 and it belongs to South African Pene Vogt and she achieved it in 2017.
