Volleyball: Land Marine Cup |06 November 2019
Finalists known
The men’s and women’s divisions one and two finals of the Land Marine Cup have been scheduled for Saturday November 16 and the finalists were known last weekend following eight semifinal matches.
The women’s division one final will be a repeat of last year’s as league champions Cascade will face Arsu as they try to defend their title and make it a third win in a row after winning the title in 2017 without breaking a sweat when their opponents Arsu failed to turn up and defending the piece of silverware in 2018 with a come-from-behind 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-14) victory.
Arsu progressed to the final thanks to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-14) win over St Michel Sisters, while defending champs Cascade dropped a set but still won 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-13, 25-15) against fellow first divisioners Island Waves.
The men’s division one final is between league champions Premium Spikers and Neo Boyz.
Premium Spikers posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) win over Ton Neo in the first semifinal and watched the second as last year’s losing finalists Neo Boyz beat La Digue Amigos 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-14) to set up a rendezvous with them.
Ton Neo narrowly lost last year’s final 2-3 (21-25, 27-25, 25-23, 9-25, 7-15) to the now defunct Swimblue Pals.
Not only the men’s division one will have a new champion, the women’s and men’s division two will also see new teams being crowned to replace Anse Aux Pins (women) and St Louis (men).
The women’s division two final is between Breakaway and Island Pearls. Breakaway came from a set down to beat SeyPearl 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22) and Island Pearls trounced Valley Volleyball Club 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-11).
Juniors will clash with Racing Club in the men’s final. While Racing Club dispatched St Francis Brothers 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 27-25), Juniors got the better of Outsiders 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-23).
