Unbeaten Sharks remain on top
Defending champions Sharks are continuing the 2024 season where they left off last year, maintaining an unbeaten run in their first three matches of the season to remain on top of the Cable & Wireless Island Nations Cup.
In their last league match during the weekend, Sharks defeated the Flying Foxes to keep their winning streak and top spot intact.
They have now collected nine points from their three victories out of three matches played, scoring 114 points and conceding 70, for a nett 44.
It is worth noting that Sharks concluded the last season undefeated.
The defeat keeps the Flying Foxes at the bottom of the league without any points after three defeats out of their three league matches contested, having scored 58 points, while conceding 107, for a nett -49.
Red Snappers, who edged out Marlins 48-46, are presently second on six points from two wins and one defeat out of their three matches played.
They have scored 113 points and conceded 109 for a nett 4.
As for Marlins, the defeat leaves them fifth overall on three points after a single win and two losses from their three league matches played.
They have scored 90 points and conceded 99 for a net -9.
Black Parrots who defeated Pirates 43-34 are presently third in the league on four points from two wins and one defeat, having scored 101 points and conceded 89, for a nett 12.
They have also been penalised -2 points after fielding in an ineligible player.
Pirates are fourth overall on three points from a victory and two defeats out of their three matches played, having scored 103 points, while conceding 105 for a nett -2.
Sharks’ Johannes Hanekom is leading the scoring with 37 points, followed by Jesse Muthoka of Black Parrots who is on 30 points.
Marc Legendre of Marlins is third overall after also scoring 30 goals, ahead of Red Snappers’ Hendrik Jan Mosca who is fourth overall on 28 goals.
Pirates’ PJ Du Plessis and Bradley Jardine are fifth and sixth respectively, both having scored 25 points.
Roland Duval
