US navy band electrifies Plaisance secondary school with memorable performance

Armed with brass, saxophone, trombone and drums, an American navy band performed to the delight of students and teachers at the Plaisance secondary school yesterday afternoon.

The band, which arrived in Seychelles on Thursday, plans to perform at various locations on Mahe during their five-day stay and Plaisance secondary school was their first stop. It is an event hosted by the United States of America’s embassy in Seychelles.

The band's electrifying performance took the audience on a musical journey from international pop hits to cherished local tunes. One of which was ‘Flowers’ by Milley Cyrus and a local song by David André, a beloved figure in Seychelles.

The band's performance was incredibly lively and adding to the excitement, students were thrilled to have the opportunity to take souvenir photos with some of the band members.

Janice Cesar, a secondary five student, was extremely happy to sing along to the familiar songs, and shared her enjoyment along with other students.

"Even though they were oldies, they were definitely goodies," said Janice, who considered them one of the best bands she has ever seen perform live. She hoped a similar event would be organised soon for the school.

For secondary one student Samuel Françoise, the first time experience was a great one. “It was fun and I would love for them to come back. I will never forget this day,” said Samuel.

Jenny Kilindo, head teacher of Plaisance secondary, explained that their school was chosen by the education ministry and they are very grateful. “This event was a success as the students know most of the songs,” said Mrs Kilindo.

Furthermore, the school presented a token of appreciation to the band to show their appreciation.

During their five-day stay, the US navy band will be at the President’s Village today and perform at other sites in the coming days including Beau Vallon beach, History Museum, School of Music as well as at the official launch of the Exercise Cutlass Express 2024 at the Seychelles Defence Academy.

The accompanying photos taken by Kurtrine Albert show the students enjoying the performances of the American navy band.
