The Team Seychelles are in Dubai to participate in the 2019 First Global Robotic Challenge.
The team, comprising ten students and three adults, left Seychelles on Wednesday this week.
The ten students selected to represent Seychelles at the 2019 First Global Robotic Challenge are Ronan Varsani (International School), Christie Valentina Rath (Mont Fleuri secondary school), Jayant Jayesh Gondariya (Anse Boileau secondary school), Rohan Brahim Albert (Anse Royale secondary school), Jacob Emmanuel Isnard (Anse Boileau secondary school), Alissa Valerie Dogley (Anse Boileau secondary school), Carl Eric Joseph Gedeon (Pointe Larue secondary), Mikhail Rudchenko (International School), Jacqueline Trecy Jerson Andre (Anse Boileau secondary school) and Miguel Raddy Louis Malbrook (Anse Boileau secondary school).
The three adults chaperoning the students are team manager Felix Xavier Estico (chief executive of Nisti), team mentor Joseph Raj Xavier (Nisti) and team coordinator Angela Marlene Marie (Nisti).
It is the third time around that Seychelles is represented in this Olympic-styled robotic competition following our consecutive two years (2017 & 2018) participation.
In 2017 a group of five students from Beau Vallon school who took part in the challenge in Washington DC was ranked 105 out of 163 countries and in 2018 a group of four female students from four different schools who took part in the challenge held in Mexico was ranked 126 out of 161 countries.
Each year a different grand challenge takes place to foster understanding and co-operation among the youth of the world as they use their knowledge to solve the world’s problem.
The theme for 2019 is ‘Ocean opportunities’.
This year’s challenge which started on Thursday will end tomorrow, October 27.
