8-year-old model shines locally and abroad |03 February 2024
• Shares her passion and dream
Aspiring young model Catherine Commettant, 8, wants to make a name for herself in the modelling world.
The youngster is already known locally following her active involvement in various modelling gigs, alongside her mother Farana Commettant who is well-established in Seychelles.
Seychelles NATION caught up with Catherine this week to talk about her passion and dream, and adventure so far.
“I am not scared; I feel very confident when on stage,” shared Catherine who has taken to the stage several times where she got to shine.
According to her mother, Farana, Catherine entered the modelling business when she was six years old when she took part in the Katiti Fashion week, following in her footsteps.
“I love modelling, and Catherine would always watch me and copy what I did so I said why not introduce her to the industry,” said Mrs Commettant.
I saw she had a talent and I wanted her to blossom further, added Ms Commettant.
Her mother was not her only her biggest fan as young Catherine was followed closely by her mentor, Nahil Accouche and designer Johanna Didon who designs her clothes for the catwalk.
Catherine’s training session takes place in Providence and last for one hour on Fridays and for two on Saturdays.
“However, as she is moving up to primary three where she has to start preparing for her Holy Communion, her schedule will have to be shifted,” said Mrs Commettant.
Catherine has been awarded a certificate and shield for best dedicated model 2023 for her active involvement in the Katiti fashion week of 2023.
The young model has also made it to an international event, where she represented Seychelles alongside other local models from the Katiti modelling team at the Accra Fashion Week in December last year.
Catherine is the youngest model from Seychelles to attend such an international event. She has also taken part in her first advert, modelling for the C Shells jewel in February last year.
Pending international gigs await in 2024 including the local Fashion Week.
Her mentor was also working on a calendar of upcoming events, according to her mother. The team was also eyeing the Fashion week in Ghana.
Seychelles NATION wishes the young star continued success in her chosen field.
