Seychelles joins Global Coalition for Social Justice |02 February 2024
Seychelles has accepted to join the Global Coalition for Social Justice, established in November 2023 by the governing body of the International Labour Organisation and following an invitation from its director general, Gilbert F. Houngbo.
The coalition aims to promote the social dimension of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, the sustainable development goals and the decent work agenda, seeking to create a collaborative space where partners can collectively enhance their ambitions and take concrete individual and collective actions aimed at positively impacting the lives of citizens.
It serves as a platform to generate increased political commitments, foster concrete actions in support of national priorities towards advancing social justice and decent work, and create a forum for exchange and dialogue.
The ultimate goal is to achieve a greater balance amongst the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. Seychelles stands to benefit from networking with member countries through sharing of best practices, policies and laws in areas such as youth unemployment, labour rights, decent work, employment relations, among others.
Furthermore, it will increase the visibility of actions and initiatives being undertaken by Seychelles to advance social justice.
The coalition brings together governments, workers’ and employers’ organisations, United Nations (UN) system organisations and regional organisations, international financial institutions and development banks, enterprises, academia, and international non-governmental organisations that are committed to supporting the cause of social justice and willing to join forces to urgently address social justice deficits and undertake advocacy efforts.
To date, the Global Coalition for Social Justice has attracted over 100 partners.
