Multiple committees, commissions set up to spearhead various initiatives

The Confederation for African Tennis executive committee held its first in-person meeting for the year in Tunis, Tunisia, from January 19-21, under the leadership of president Jean Claude Talon.

The sessions were held the Confederation for African Tennis (Cat) headquarters in Tunis and at the African Regional Training Centre in Sousse.

International Tennis Federation (ITF) vice-president Salma Mouelhi Guizani who is also president of the Tunisian Tennis Federation, grace the opening session with his presence.

The Seychelles Tennis Association (STA) was represented at the meeting by its chairperson Fatime Kanté who also sits on the Caf board as women’s representative gender equality.

Throughout the course of the meeting, the committee delved into a wide array of strategic and operational matters, including Cat’s major priorities, competitions for the year 2024, and various other projects.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the setting up of multiple committees and commissions designed to spearhead various initiatives.

These include the development and junior events committee, legal and ethics committee, Can and African competitions committee, marketing and communication committee, partnership and international relations commission, administrative and financial commission, wheelchair tennis commission, beach tennis and associated disciplines commission, ‘Advantage All’ Africa commission, and the Davis Cup and BJKC Africa commission.

In addition to these formal decisions, the committee also addressed financial matters, zone meetings and competitions, as well as governance and management issues.

Following the meetings in Tunis, Mr Talon and Mrs Guizani paid a visit to the ITF Regional Training Centere in Sousse, where they had the opportunity to engage with players, coaches, and administrative staff.

The Cat executive committee's first in-person meeting marked a pivotal moment in aligning the organisation's vision through long-term planning and strategic alignment, reinforcing its commitment to the development and advancement of tennis across the African continent.

The whole trip was financed by Cat.
