‘2024’s big focus is Venice Biennale’ – Ryan Chetty

Ryan Chetty

Two international outings in 2023 left artist Ryan Chetty, 34, highly motivated and inspired. The La Misère resident, who turned his interest in art into a full-time career, travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for ‘Jeux de la Francophonie’ and to Italy for the Florence Biennale.

“Both events were extremely motivational and memorable and I hope to share my experience with other local artists so they may be inspired to participate in such exhibitions themselves,” he stated.

Mr Chetty, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Baroda in India, presently works as a lecturer at the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design. The artist said one of the challenges he encountered last year was the lack of time to realise his artistic vision due to his current employment.

“I believe this is a similar constraint that many employed local artists face and my advice to them is to deal with everything positively, because if we sit back and let the difficulties overwhelm us, we will fail to achieve any of our goals and vision.”

For 2024, the artist hopes to continue inspiring his students, helping them discover and develop their creative skills. The big focus will be his participation at the 2024 Venice Biennale in Italy alongside three other artists namely Jude Ally, Danielle Freakly and Juliette Zelime.

Mr Chetty is presently working on his installation.
