13th-month payment applicable to workers in public sector |15 December 2023
Chief secretary and head of the Public Service Bureau has affirmed that the application of the 13th-month payment to both Seychellois and expatriate employees is exclusively within the public sector.
Shella Mohideen made the statement in a press release issued yesterday, stating that “in accordance with Circular No. 6 of 2023, issued by the Public Service Bureau on December 6, 2023, the Bureau affirms that the application of the 13th-month payment to both Seychellois and expatriate employees is exclusively within the public sector”.
“It is essential to note that this circular pertains specifically to the public sector, aligning with the central government’s policy.”
She added that for other sectors, the 13th-month payment is governed by the Employment (Amendment) Act, 2016.
“The Public Service Bureau emphasises that the issuance of such circulars is a routine internal exercise in the public sector, providing guidance on employment matters. It is crucial to understand that the Public Service Bureau’s mandate extends solely to guiding employment policies within the public sector and not at a national level,” the statement concluded.
