Chinese embassy donates to Anse Royale district

The handover of the donation

Funds will be used to purchase and install security cameras

The chargé d’affaires of the Chinese embassy in Seychelles, Mu Jianfeng, yesterday donated R100,000 to the Anse Royale district, in a ceremony at the district administration office.

The generous donation was made to the district’s elected member in the National Assembly, Sylvanne Lemiel, in the presence of the Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, Rose-Marie Hoareau; the Anse Royale district administrator, Pamela Henriette; deputy Commissioner of Police, Francis Songoire and  representatives of the Chinese embassy.

The money will be used to purchase and install 23 security cameras throughout the district, starting from the Fairy Land area to the St Joseph church. The project is considered highly important and necessary and is being done in partnership with the Seychelles Police Force, which will greatly benefit from these security cameras.

When addressing the guests during the short ceremony, Mr Mu reiterated his country’s commitment to continuously support Seychelles in such projects which are beneficial to the community.

For her part, Minister Hoareau thanked Mr Mu for this much-needed donation, which she said will not only help the police force but also ensures the community’s security and protection.

In an interview with Seychelles NATION, MNA Lemiel, shared the fund was going towards a project that was in the work since she got elected to represent the district.

She explained that her office, alongside the former officer in charge of the Anse Royale police station, Superintendent Ronny Julienne, started by examining strategic areas more fitted for surveillance cameras.

Mrs Lemiel said the cameras would help in the fight against crimes by deterring illegal and criminal activities in the region. “This can also help the police to better monitor and protect the community. These cameras are expected to be in place by the first quarter of next year.”

Deputy Commissioner Songoire also thanked the chargé d’affaires for the great gesture that he said would enhance the police work.
