‘Police take all criminal cases seriously,’ internal minister reassures |11 October 2023
Seychelles’ internal affairs minister, Errol Fonseka, has reassured the National Assembly that the country’s police force take all criminal cases seriously and urged all citizens to join forces in the fight against crimes.
He was speaking before the National Assembly yesterday morning when answering a private notice question from the leader of the opposition, Sebastien Pillay, who wanted to know the ministry’s plan to address criminality in the country following a recent attack against a person in town and other incidents across the country.
Minister Fonseka confirmed there was an attack in town where a man was injured on his arms, treated at the hospital and released.
“Such an incident is regrettable and the police are investigating. The police can confirm that it was not a robbery contrary to what is being said,” he stated.
“The police take all criminal cases seriously and with the opportunistic crimes happening, we are urging the public to become more alert and report any incident,” added Minister Fonseka.
He informed the National Assembly that they have intensified their patrol, and a lot of emphasis was being placed on resolving all cases reported to them.
He also commended the officers for their hard work and appealed to the public to join forces to fight against crimes.
He was accompanied by Commissioner of Police, Ted Barbe; Assistant Commissioner Ned Wirtz and Assistant Superintendent, Joseph Bibi.
