US elected member for Baie Ste Anne denies allegation of illegal transactions

The United Seychelles’ elected member in the National Assembly for Baie Ste Anne Praslin, Churchill Gill, has categorically and strongly denied allegation that he is linked to any illegal transaction in the country.

He made the comment in the National Assembly yesterday while giving a personal explanation under Standing Order 39.

He was referring to a recent incident on Friday September 29, when he was questioned by a police officer from the Crime Investigation Division (CID) with regard to a parcel bearing his name that had arrived into the country. Mr Gill said he answered all the questions put to him.

He then left the country for an overseas mission in Ghana.

“It was after my departure that photos and writings were circulating on social media. Something which had never been in my possession was referred to as mine,” he stated, adding this was being done by people who were not members of the police force.

Mr Gill said in a second incident, he was approached by an officer at the Seychelles international airport upon his return on Saturday October 7, who wanted to search his luggage. He told the house that nothing deemed illegal was found in his possession.

According to him, there was a request for a search at his house in Praslin which was done the same day but yielded nothing “connected to what they were looking for”.

He was taken to the Grand Anse Praslin police station to do the formalities, and was then allowed to go home.

The member of the United Seychelles party has described these actions as “malicious, vicious and filled with bad intention to hurt me and tarnish my reputation”.

He has reassured the Baie Ste Anne residents and the general population that he is committed to delivering his duties as an elected member in a responsible manner, with honesty and discipline.

“My only agenda is to work for Seychelles and members of my constituents, who gave me a new mandate,” he concluded.
