The Children Ministry department of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Seychelles held a spiritual concert recently to celebrate the Children’s Sabbath day.
The concert, held on July 22 at the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS), included prayers and worship, in-between songs by children under 14 years, and even some who were older.
The director of the Children’s Ministry, Betty-May Moustache, explained that the day is meant to celebrate and praise God.
She noted that the event is held every year on a regional level and each church does it its own way.
However, this year with a new team, the decision was taken to do it on a national level whereby all the churches came together.
The preparations began very early, with the team finalised by February and work beginning that same month. The choir was set up and the children practised once every month, with the responsibilities evenly spread out.
“Each church had its part to present the programme in the morning and the afternoon,” she stated.
In terms of funding, the budget from the Seychelles Mission along with the contributions from each church and sponsors each played a part in making the event happen.
“I think today is a success,” said Ms Moustache.
Each church performed two songs while the main choir sang 8 songs.
Associate director of the Children Ministry, Natasha Marie, stated that the mass choir is made up of around 80 children, comprising ten from each church.
Despite the age limit (under 14), Ms Marie stated that those who were older could still participate and were allowed to sing.
“Everybody can sing for God,” she said.
Ms Marie said there are plans to hold another such event in November this year but it will have a wider community outreach.
One of the participants, Rebecca Solin, from the Victoria Church, stated that she participated because she wanted to share the love of God with others.
“I wanted them to see how much God does in the lives of others,” she said tenderly.
She admitted that at first the six month rehearsals were a little bit difficult and there were a lot of rehearsals done to reach the designated day.
“I am excited to be singing in front of an audience,” she added.
Another participant, Abigail Edmond, who comes from Val d’Andorre Church, also wanted to spread the word of God and show how He has helped people.
She said she did not find the rehearsals that difficult, but they received a lot of help to push their group forward and get them to showcase their singing.
Abigail said she enjoys going to church and participating in activities like this one.
