Doris Belle appointed new president for year 2023-2024

As customary at this time of the year, new office bearers of the Seychelles Centennial Women Lions Club (SCWLC) for the year 2023-2024 were officially inducted recently at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay hotel.

The new president of the SCWLC is Doris Belle and she is the first Seychellois to ever hold this position on this organisation. The other office bearers are Sreeshma Pillay (secretary) and Kantha Dinesh Harani (treasurer). The first and second vice-presidents are Divya Balakumaran and Divya Muthukumay respectively.

The event started off with the customary Lions roar followed by a Lions toast to the health of the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, and to the international Lions clubs.

In a message sent by Shehzan Luhar, District Governor, District 411A 2022-2023 (Kenya-Ethiopia-Seychelles), he noted that his vision when the year started was to empower our Lions of Seychelles and make the country into a separate Region and a Zone.

“This not only allowed more Lions to become District and Cabinet Officers, but allowed them to address the needs of the Seychelles community in a more focused and efficient way. I am extremely pleased that this worked so well and the Lions of Seychelles not only grew in Membership and Service, but also in Leadership. I must also commend the Lions of Seychelles for their dedication and most importantly their teamwork in addressing the community needs.”

Annithaa Raj Kannan, the outgoing President, noted that “without any doubts our club has hit the ground running and has tackled a lot with all your wonderful support. We have gained the highest figures of achievement and where history will show our steps taken to success. In the midst of our businesses, life and working, we beautiful ladies made our club what it is today. The activities we did this year have been welcomed by individuals, organisations and the Nation in general.”

Ms Kannan also shared that the SCWLC had covered all the five Global courses of the International Lions Club and completed 31 projects under the banner SCWLC and nine projects under the banner Seychelles Mighty Leo Club.

Ms Kannan has also been awarded the Best Club President Award (2022-2023) District 411A.

The incoming President, Ms Belle, shared that “we have already started working on some projects which we will complete – diabetic, hunger, blood donation, projects with school children, environmental projects and projects for pediatric cancer patients”.
