A total of R91,400 has been raised by ‘Fanm Seselwa’, the organising committee of the ‘Around Seychelles in 18 Bays’ project for the Liam’s Rainbow Foundation.

It was the chairperson of the committee, Isabelle Ravinia, who made the announcement to the press yesterday afternoon at the Fish Tail Restaurant, Inter Island Quay, in the presence of committee members Chantal Hoffman and Cindy Moka.

The money collected will be used by the foundation to build a play house next to the paediatric ward at the Seychelles Hospital for children suffering from medical conditions.

The ‘Around Seychelles in 18 Bays’ which took place on Saturday June 10, 2023, was to commemorate the World Oceans Day and at the same time raise funds for the Liam’s Rainbow Foundation, while creating awareness on marine-related issues.

The trip brought together an all-female crew comprising 70 influential women in maritime, sports, conservation, the arts and in politics, among others, who sailed around Mahé, Praslin and La Digue onboard the Oplezir catamaran, covering 18 bays in the course of a whole day under the guidance of Captain Marie-Jeanne Pathon.

“The event went extremely well and for us it was a great success given that it was the first time that we  organise such an event in the country involving only women,” said Ms Ravinia, who noted that the women conducted a lot of networking apart from having fun.

Ms Ravinia said that the committee, comprising seven members, is looking to organise another charitable event in the future to promote women working in other sectors other than in maritime.

She thanked the sponsors for supporting the event and looked forward to their continuous support in future events.
