MCB reaffirms commitment as one of Team Seychelles’ official partners
- 38 years of loyal sponsorship and still going strong
After 38 years as an official sponsor of Team Seychelles for the Indian Ocean Islands Games, the Mauritius Commercial Bank has once again reaffirmed its commitment towards the cause, while appreciating the profound value sports contribute towards the society.
For the forthcoming 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) scheduled for Madagascar in August, the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) has once again stepped forward to support our local athletes, this time, through a sponsorship of R1 million which will go mainly towards the official and competition garments.
To strengthen the 38-year-old partnership, which began in 1985, the bank’s managing director Bernard Jackson yesterday handed over the sponsorship, in the form of a cheque, to the chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Marc Arissol, during a ceremony at the Caravelle House, in the presence of the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Marie-Celine Zialor, principal secretary for youth and sports Ralph Jean-Louis, president of the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) Antonio Gopal, and chairman of the local IOIG secretariat Alain Alcindor.
Mr Jackson noted that the loyal sponsorship to Team Seychelles for the IOIG has become part of the bank’s DNA, especially in its commitment to promote sports and positive values that they bring towards the shaping of a better society.
The sponsorship also falls under MCB’s corporate sustainability programme ‘Success Beyond Numbers’, while sports are an integral part of the strategy and also reflect in MCB’s values being team spirit, integrity and excellence.
On behalf of the government, Mr Arissol thanked MCB, noting that the NSC, along with the local sports community appreciate immensely the bank’s commitment towards sports development in the country, while the investment will ensure and promote a more physically active nation, which in return will contribute towards a more healthy and effective human resource, thus ensuring more productivity economically for the country.
He urged other members of the local business community to follow in the footsteps of the MCB and invest in sports.
