other duties and responsibilities.
The interim executive committee will be confirmed or new members will be voted in during the annual general meeting (AGM) that will be held later during the year.
For the moment, the chairperson and vice-chairperson are Marie-Nella Azemia and Josie Michaud-Payet respectively. Pamela Charlette is the treasurer, Cheryl Bristol is the interim secretary and the three ordinary members are Regina Esparon, Aselma Pilate and Nelda Auguste.
During the meeting, members also approved the Constitution that the association will be guided by.
The AWLN – Seychelles Chapter was first launched on March 28, 2019. However, before the organisation could get its operations under way, the pandemic hit and stalled any progress that could be made.
This year, the organisation is being revitalised and the first step in this process was the registration of the organisation as well as the establishment of a new executive committee and the adoption of its Constitution.
The African Women Leaders' Network, established in 2017, has 32 national chapters in various African countries, and serves as a continental platform to galvanize women’s leadership of Africa towards lasting peace and sustainable development in all sectors and at all levels, building on, and working with, existing women networks. All this is achieved with the support of the African Union and the United Nations. The network builds on African women’s leadership to increase women’s participation in decision-making through peer learning and mentoring, enhanced solidarity, advocacy and capacity-building among other strategies.
Women leaders across sectors and generations came together in New York in June 2017 to launch the AWLN with the support of the African Union Commission and the United Nations and the Federal Republic of Germany.
Six AWLN pillars were adopted on namely governance; peace and security; finance and women’s entrepreneurship; youth’s leadership; agriculture and social mobilisation. Inter-generational partnership is recognised as strategic to help move the movement forward.
The network currently has over 500 members and continues to grow.
The Seychelles Chapter of the network welcomes as its members any woman leader of Seychelles or any female youth, attaining the age of 18 years who is aspiring for leadership and decision-making positions.
