Danny Faure Foundation celebrates World Oceans Day |02 June 2023
The Danny Faure Foundation is celebrating World Oceans Day through a three-day Ocean Fair at the Camion Hall in Victoria.
Present at the launch of the event yesterday morning was the founder and chairman of the foundation, Former President Danny Faure and the executive director of the Foundation, Lorraine Faure and other partners.
The aim of the fair is to sensitise the public on the importance of a sustainable ocean.
The fair comprises different ocean-related stalls with informative materials on display, educational games where visitors can expand their knowledge, several items on sale, many of which were made by Seychellois artisans.
The Danny Faure Foundation also has its own range of memorabilia – some of which are locally made by Seychellois artisans – on sale for the first time.
The Ocean Fair includes the participation of over a dozen governmental and educational institutions, such as the Seychelles Maritime Academy and also non-governmental organisations, and local artisans like Seychelles Climate Adaptation Trust Fund (SEYCCAT), Seychelles Islands Foundation and arts and craft, Unik Shells Seychelles, among others.
Media Consultant, Larrey Chetty, said the raison d’être for the fair is so that all stakeholders and partners could come together to showcase what they are doing to protect and preserve the Ocean.
“The coincidence is really nice as today is Children’s Day as well and as you roam about the stalls, think of our children. Whatever you do today the children will suffer the consequences and that is why we need to protect what we can, while we can,” he said.
Marie-May Jeremy, the chief executive of SEYCCAT, said that they have decided to be part of the fair because their work is directly related to the conservation of the ocean.
“We wanted to take this opportunity to showcase our work and also raise awareness of the Seychelles marine spatial plan. We want to explain to people how, why and where we are doing our projects,” she said.
The fair will be open to the public today and tomorrow, from 9am onwards, ending at 5pm and 3pm respectively.
