Over 80% of accidental drowning victims in Seychelles are male

In commemoration of World Drowning Prevention Day celebrated on July 25, the National Bureau of Statistics has released new data highlighting the ongoing risk of accidental drowning in Seychelles, an issue that continues to claim lives across all age groups and demographics.
On average, 13 people die from accidental drowning in the country each year, based on registered deaths between 2015 and 2024. Of these fatalities, over 80 percent are male, according to gender-disaggregated statistics published by the Statistics Unit of the Ministry of Health.
