CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship

President Ramkalawan meets Arsu Volleyball Club

 

President Wavel Ramkalawan met members of the Arsu women’s volleyball club on board his flight to the United Arab Emirates where he was leading a high level delegation to discuss port and airport development.

The team were on their way to Tunisia for the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship.

President Ramkalawan, on behalf of the country and on his personal behalf, extended words of encouragement to the team wishing them determination as they continue to strive to raise the Seychelles flag whenever they compete.

He urged them to continue aiming high and continue making Seychelles proud.

Arsu were to play their second group A match yesterday in Nabeul, Tunisia against Quatre Bornes Volleyball Club of Mauritius after losing their first game on a 0-3 (15-25, 15-25, 11-25) score last Friday against hosts team Carthage of Tunisia.

CAVB Zone 7 Indian Ocean Club Championship runners-up after losing to Quatre Bornes Volleyball Club of Mauritius 2-3 in the final earlier this year in Mauritius, Arsu were determined to get a win over the Mauritians yesterday.

The other team in group A are AJD Diorfior of Senegal and Arsu will play against them tomorrow.

AJD Diorfior lost their first pool A match on a 0-3 (14-25, 18-25, 21-25) score to Quatre Bornes Volleyball Club of Mauritius.

Altogether, 16 teams are taking part in the championship and they have been drawn into four groups of four teams each. Kenya Commercial Bank are the defending champions and they have already picked up two victories ‒ 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-16) against Nyong et Kelle Volleyball (Cameroon) and 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-9) over National Alcohol Liquor Factory (Ethiopia).

Meanwhile, the men’s championship is being played at the same time and Egyptian giants Al Ahly will put their men's title up for grabs.

Women’s Pool A: Carthage (Tunisia), Quatre Bornes VBC (Mauritius), Diofior, Arsu (Seychelles)

Women’s Pool B: Kenya Commercial Bank (Kenya), National Alcohol Liquor Factory (Ethiopia), Nyong et Kelle Volleryball (Cameroon), Asac Saltigue (Senegal)

Women’s Pool C: Kenya Pipeline Company (Kenya), Mouloudia Club Alger (Algeria), Co Decaretes (Ivory Coast), Chief Naval Staff Spikers (Nigeria)

Women’s Pool D: APR (Rwanda), Letto Team Volleyball Acade (Cameroon), Zamalek (Egypt), National Customs Service (Nigeria).
