Narayan XI clinch victory
Narayan XI emerged as the champions of the Shri Hari Challenge Women's T20 Tournament 2023 after a thrilling 3-wicket victory against Gran Kaz Lions in the final played at the Roche Caïman ground on Sunday. The tournament was sponsored by Shri Hari & Hari Builders.
After winning the toss, it was Narayan X1 captain Geetaben Hirani who fielded first against Gran Kaz, scoring a total of 77 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Gran Kaz started their innings with an opening partnership of 16 runs but after that Narayan XI bowlers consistently kept most batters on their toes.
In chasing the target, Narayan XI lost both their openers early, but Malshini Senaratne and captain Geetaben Hirani steadied the innings with a partnership of 28 runs for the third wicket, rekindling hopes for their team. However, after that partnership, Narayan's batters struggled against Gran Kaz' challenging bowling attack.
The final was quite intense and thrilling and all players fought for their teams.
Malshini Senaratne was crowned player-of-the-match for her crucial contribution with the bat.
The Shri Hari Challenge Women's T20 Tournament 2023 featured six teams ‒ Narayan XI, Gran Kaz Lions, Vijay, Kilogame A, Deeva Queens, and Rising Stars. The six teams wee divided into two groups of three. The teams in each group played two matches against each, creating a thrilling competition among the best female cricketers in the league.
The top teams from groups 1 and 2 ‒ Narayan XI and Gran Kaz Lions ‒ advanced to the final and Narayan XI earned the championship title after a thrilling game.
The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Vasanti Patel of Narayan 11 for her outstanding bowling performance which contributed to Narayan XI’s success throughout the tournament.
The top three batters of the tournament were Chamila Gamage (Gran Kaz Lions), Pauldina Lajoie (Kilo Game A) and Manisha Kanbi (Gran Kaz Lions), whereas top three bowlers were Vasanti Patel (Narayan XI), Chantal Frederic (Kilo Game A), and Geetaben Hirani (Narayan XI).
