One Stone extend lead, cruising to league title win

 

After being in the shadow of defending champions Real Maldives for most of the season, Forêt Noire-based One Stone have now carved a six-point lead at the top, pushing them closer to their objective of becoming the new league champions.

In their last league match against Skychef during the weekend, the boys of manager Roddy Rath scored 12 times, registering a 12-1 victory, bringing their points tally to 57 after 19 wins and three defeats out of 22 matches played.

Real Maldives, on the other hand, are presently second on 51 points from 17 wins and three defeats after 20 encounters.

Speaking to Sports NATION, One Stone manager Rath said at this point he is 100 percent confident they will be the new champions this season, with only two matches remaining for them.

He explained that he is not underestimating any opponents, but at this stage, One Stone will be all out to win both remaining matches, especially against much weaker opponents.

Mr Rath further explained that if it comes to the worse, meaning that both teams end the league with the same points tally, they will still be crowned champions based on the head-to-head rule, after they beat Real Maldives by more goals in the second round of the league.

In their first round match, Real Maldives edged-out One Stone 4-3, while during their second round encounter, One Stone trounced the Maldives side 8-2.

One Stone’s next two opponents are against Glacis and Sorry, while Real Maldives still have to face Marine Maintenance, Club Stormy Taka, Equator and village rivals Sunrise.

Further down the league table, MLUH are presently third on 45 points from 15 wins and six defeats from 21 matches played, one spot above Sunrise who are fourth on 41 points from 15 victories and five defeats from 20 matches played.

Club Stormy Taka who have registered 12 wins and eight defeats from 20 matches are fifth overall, ahead of sixth-placed Marine Maintenance who have garnered 31 points from 11 wins and nine defeats out of 20 matches played.

Vision are presently seventh overall on 30 points collected from 10 wins and 10 defeats out of 20 matches played, while Beach Boyz are eighth overall on 28 points after 11 wins and nine defeats.

On 25 points from nine wins and 11 defeats, Sorry are presently ninth overall, ahead of Perseverance who are tenth overall on 15 points from five wins and 15 defeats out of 20 matches played.

With four wins and 16 defeats, earning them 10 points, Equator are currently 11th on the table on 10 points, ahead of 12th-placed Glacis who are on five points from two wins and 17 defeats from 19 matches played, while on three points, with a single win and 19 defeats, Skychef are carrying the weight of the league table.
