Invitation open for all working organisations to join the fun
To commemorate this year’s Labour Day which falls on May 1 and is a day dedicated to celebrate the achievements of all workers, the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs is inviting all working organisations ‒ both public and private ‒ to gather for an organisational sports day which will take place at the Freedom Square.
The event, scheduled for Saturday April 29 starting at 9am, is aimed at bringing together private and public organisations in a friendly atmosphere and promoting good health and wellbeing.
On the programme will be different gender-balanced sports activities such as volleyball, four-a-side football, five-a-side football, petanque, dominos, pillow fight, and the famous tug of war.
Upon closure, trophies will be awarded to the winners in all categories.
Registration for the activity is still open and interested organisations can contact either Simone Malbrook or Elsia Vidot at the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs on 4297325 or 4297244 to register and for more information.
Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours of rest.
For most countries, Labour Day is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers' Day, which occurs on May 1.
