One Stone upset leaders Real Maldives to close gap at the top
Leaders and defending champions Real Maldives are now just three points clear at the top of the table, after suffering a humiliating 2-8 defeat at the hands of rivals One Stone during the weekend, with Martin William finding the back of the net on four occasions.
Real Maldives are now on 51 points from 17 wins and two defeats out of 19 matches played, while the win has pushed One Stone’s points tally to 48 after 16 wins and three defeats, also from 19 matches played.
It took One Stone only three minutes to open the scoring through Aubrey Berlouis, before Herold Prosper doubled the score in the 8th minute, giving One Stone a 2-0 lead.
In the last minute of the first period, William’s header gave One Stone a 3-0 cushion at the break.
In the second period, One Stone needed just two minutes for William to score his second goal of the match, giving the Mont Fleuri-based side a 4-0 lead which they held until the end of the period.
In the third and final period of play, Real Maldives managed to re-arrange their game, scoring two goals through Michael Cadeau and Barry Marie, but a second goal from Berlouis and two more goals from William, and one from Bryan Mousbe gave One Stone an 8-2 win, cutting Real Maldives’ lead to only three points at the top.
Real Maldives’ next match will be against MLUH, while One Stone will play Persévérance next.
