Teachers, students and parents ready to show off talents

Rehearsing for tomorrow’s show

People are being encouraged to come down to the International Conference Centre (ICCS) tomorrow afternoon to show their support while also witnessing the artistic talents of teachers, students and parents participating in a variety show.

The three-hour show which will start at 3pm will include a variety of performances including songs, poems, storytelling, theatrical pieces, dances, fashion shows and live bands.

Tickets for the show cost R100 apiece and are on sale in all schools on Mahé and are also on sale at the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD).Tickets will also be available at the door tomorrow.

The variety show, which forms part of activities to mark Teachers’ Day, has been put together by the National Teacher’s Day Committee to raise funds for activities for Teachers’ Week.

A member of the National Teacher’s Day Committee, Terence Gomme, explained yesterday that this is so because the show, put together by the teachers, parents and the students, gets better each time in terms of originality and is becoming more entertaining.

He said that tomorrow’s show will be very entertaining as members of the public will have the chance to see the best pieces selected from the schools on Mahé.

The variety show has, since its inception six years ago, become one of the preferred Teachers’ Week activities by the public.

Noting that the show in 2018 was on a high level and turnout was very good, Mr Gomme said that tomorrow’s variety show will be on a much higher level as the performances get better and better year after year.

He said that for R100 the public will not be disappointed as the show will be worth it.

The group has been doing intensive rehearsals for the past two weeks and the final grand rehearsal will be held this afternoon.
