A Week of Discovery: Anse Aux Pins holiday special

During the month of April, the Ministry of Government and Community Affairs launched a vibrant series of activities across Mahé, Praslin and La Digue as part of its school holiday programme.  One that stood out was the Anse Aux Pins holiday special, which offered primary six pupils from Anse Aux Pins school an unforgettable week of learning, culture and connection.

 

Day 1: A taste of tradition and community

The programme kicked off on April 23 with a heartwarming intergenerational cooking experience. Pupils rolled up their sleeves and joined elderly members of the community in preparing traditional Creole dishes and a sweet local dessert. As delicious aromas filled the kitchen, stories and laughter flowed freely, bridging the gap between generations and deepening community ties.

In the afternoon, the pupils ventured to the coco de mer collection site—a unique location where local perfume is made from Seychelles’ iconic nut. They were fascinated by the intricate perfume-making process and discovered the many uses of coco de mer flakes, including their medicinal value and role in export.
