- MCB gives R50,000 sponsorship
The preliminary round matches of the Seychelles India Day badminton friendship tournament 2019 started on Monday at the La Promenade Gymnasium and the finals are slated for Saturday.
Open to local players and foreigners living in Seychelles, the competition is part of the celebrations to mark Seychelles-India Day which celebrates friendship between Seychelles and India.
It is being organised by members of the Indian Association of Seychelles in collaboration with the Seychelles Badminton Association. The tournament has been endorsed with a R50,000 sponsorship from the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB). The presentation ceremony took place on Monday afternoon.
MCB’s sales and service manager Marie-Rose Hoareau said the bank always puts the health of the community at the forefront of sponsored activities and this is why it uses its corporate social responsibility (CSR) tax to promote good health through sports, thus encouraging the youths and grown-ups to stay healthy.
She thanked the Indian Association of Seychelles for getting MCB onboard to continue to fulfill part of this role.
This is the second consecutive year MCB has sponsored the event.
For his part, Indian Association of Seychelles chairman Jamshed Pardiwalla thanked MCB for the continuous sponsorship and noted that the association is also engaged in the good health of the community and this is why it organises sports activities for mass participation.
This is the seventh Seychelles India Day badminton friendship tournament which started in 2013. A total of 60 local and foreign players have registered for the tournament. The players are battling for titles in the men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles and the master’s singles title for the over 40 years.
Matches continue today and on Friday. All finals of the tournament which has now become a staple on the Seychelles Badminton Federation’s annual calendar will take place at 4pm on Saturday.
