AMPS to elect new executive committee on February 23 |06 February 2023
The Association of Media Practitioners Seychelles (AMPS) met last Saturday at Harbour Café to elect its new executive committee but due to a lack of quorum, the election will now be held on February 23.
Rassin Vannier, the current chairman of AMPS, explained that the mandate of this executive committee ended since December last year. “According to our Constitution we are supposed to have a general assembly to elect the committee. Unfortunately today (Saturday) we did not have the required quorum to complete this exercise. A new meeting has been set for February 23 at 4.30pm to have our new committee elected, quorom or no quorom.”
AMPS exists since 2014 and should not be seen as an entity to defend journalists when there is a problem but rather they are here to educate the population about our job and to encourage the young to join this noble profession, explained Mr Vannier.
“We want more people to come and join us in this noble profession and we encourage more people to come forward as we are not more than 40 journalists in the country. Everyday journalists are working in the field and it is important for us to gather and meet,” the chairman said.
So far AMPS has organised training sessions for journalists and sensitisation programmes in collaboration with various partners and embassies.
