UN resident coordinator pays courtesy call on Minister Joubert

The meeting between Minister Joubert and Ms Singh

Lisa Singh, the new United Nation residential coordinator designated for Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert, yesterday at Unity House.

Ms Singh commended the minister for the tremendous achievements in environment protection and highlighted that Seychelles should be an inspiration for other African countries and small island developing states.

Their discussion focused on the objectives of other United Nations (UN) agencies such as the International Fund for Agricultural Development (Ifad) as an international financial institution as well as the structure and function of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Seychelles.

Minister Joubert and Ms Singh deliberated on potential opportunities for climate smart agriculture, capacity building within the ministry and establishing a financial mechanism which will ensure a secure local food system.

Minister Joubert mentioned the upcoming African Island Climate Commission ministerial meeting to be held in Seychelles in late March this year and Ms Singh, as the UN coordinator, has said she is ready to provide the support of technical expertise.
