Katiti Modeling Agency made an impressive participation in the closing show of the 6th Accra Fashion Week from December 7-11, 2022 in Accra, Ghana with its red charcoal collection designed by Katiti Seychelles founder and designer, Johanna Didon.

The red and black evening wears, elegantly worn by the local models and the energy with which they walked, brought a sense of festivity and tropical taste to the event, which left the attendees in awe.

This was Katiti Seychelles’ third participation in an international fashion week but the first for its modelling agency, launched in 2021 though some of the models had participated in previous editions of the show.

“The designers were very impressive. I didn't expect such quality and finishing but I was more than wrong,” said the chief executive and Founder of Accra Fashion Week,  Nana Ado Tamakloe after seeing what Seychelles had to offer.

The 23-strong delegation from Seychelles led by Katiti Seychelles’ founder and designer Johanna Didon had gone to Ghana with the aim of flying beyond expectations and they did just that and more during the two main fashion shows held at Circle Dubai.

The aim of the all-inclusive modelling agency had always been to provide an opportunity to young Seychellois to live their dreams and make it on the international runway. This target was reached as most of the local models were also selected by other participating designers to catwalk in their respective collections.

Mr Tamakloe had this to say about the Katiti models: “The models were amazing and disciplined. I like the way they attended to instructions and followed their agents and event organisers’ advice.”

Seychelles proved it could hold its own alongside top designers not only from host country Ghana but also Nigeria, South Africa, USA, Senegal, Uganda, Mali, Namibia and Germany. Feedback received from most people who watched the closing show on Sunday was that Katiti Seychelles was the highlight of that evening and should have been the closing act.

The delegation also included Usna John Labrosse from OJZ Seychelles who had a collection of lingerie, evening wears and also designs from the collection she presented at last year’s Dubai Expo.

During their time at the week-long fashion event held under the theme Africa Forever, the models also had the opportunity to participate in networking activities such as the Meet the Designers event, fashion photography and art exhibition displaying stunning paintings and editorials and also at the African Fashion Summit.

The very interesting summit held at Accra Metropolitan Assembly Hall saw the participation of models and fashion graduates from the Rhoda Michaels School and the RIOHs College of Design. The participants had the opportunity to listen to and interact with experts in the fashion industry such as Faith Senam from E’april PR, Kwab Asamoah from Kustom Looks and Oheneba Boamah from Abrantie the Gentleman.

Katiti Seychelles is thankful to the department of Tourism, which had sponsored two tickets for the delegation but is also grateful to all its models who raised the necessary funds for their own airfares and accommodation, as without their commitment the participation of the agency in the event will not have materialised. Katiti Seychelles models have proven that sacrifice do pay off and if one is willing to invest, dreams do come true.

The agency is now working on its plan for this year, which will include the second Katiti Seychelles Fashion Week and has its eyes on both the London Fashion Week and the seventh Accra Fashion Week among other interesting projects planned for this year.

It will also soon be disclosing its plans for its Katiti Empowerment Association, a non-governmental organisation, launched late last year, which uses the modelling platform to empower young people who has the desire and potential to follow their dreams in the industry.
