Local football coach, PE instructor Terrence Barbé passes away

Terrence Barbé

Former local football coach and physical education instructor Terrence Barbé has passed away, leaving behind his wife Yvonne Barbé and five children.

Barbé departed this world on December 31, 2022.

Born on March 4, 1962 in Baie Ste Anne on Praslin, Barbé studied sports for five years at the Moscow Sports school and upon his return home worked as a physical education instructor at the then Seychelles Polytechnic.

Barbé was then transferred to the Ministry of Education’s head office before joining the National Sports Council (NSC) as a sports coordinator during his first spell with the sports body.

His second spell with the NSC started in 2012 until he retired in January 2022 on medical ground. His last post was director of sports management and development.

His children are Nichole Shamlaye née Barbé, Adrian Barbé, Marilyn Barbé, Trevor Barbé and Greg Joseph.

Barbé was at one time the coach of the Plaisance football team and St Michel football club.

He was not only good at sports administration and coaching as he proved himself to be a versatile sportsman ‒ playing competitive volleyball and football. He played volleyball with the likes of Jackson Pillay, Jean Larue and Clifford Joubert. He also played as a right back for the Plaisance football team during the time of regionalisation.

Sports NATION conveys its condolences to the family and friends of Barbé.
