The Seychelles Cricket Association witnessed one of the busiest weekends of the year as it hosted the grand finales of the men’s cricket tournaments last Saturday.

The final of the SCA T10 league was played between GSP7 and GSP7 A. In the nail biting match, GSP7 A won by 2 runs.

Batting first, GSP7 A scored 84/5 in 10 overs with Purushothaman 30 (16), Sanjo 20 (11) and Sachin 18 (10). Upon chasing the target, GSP7 managed to score only 82/5 at the end of 10 overs with Manish 22 (16), Muthu and Babu each scoring 17 runs.

The best bowlers of GSP7 A were Ankith with 2, Lijo Sachin and Rajkumar each grabbing 1 wicket.

Purushothaman of GSP7 A was named the player-of-the-match.

In the morning of Sunday December 3, Spartan Warriors played the Bangladesh Tigers in the final of the Savy and Sons Super league T20 reserved for division two teams.

Winning the toss, Spartan Warriors opted to bowl and conceded 136 runs grabbing 8 wickets of Bangladesh Tigers with Ashik 24 (31), Juel Islam 30 (28) being the high scorers among the Bangladesh Tigers. Bowler Meeran of Spartan made a 5-wicket haul as skipper Gunasekaran grabbed 2 wickets.

Upon chasing, Bangladesh Tigers collapsed the Spartan batting order as the batsmen were dismissed at regular intervals for cheap runs. As Ashik (4 wickets), Appu and Rahul both grabbing 3 wickets helped the Bangladesh Tigers to claim their winner’s title for the first time.

Ashik of Bangladesh Tigers was awarded the player-of-the-match title.

In the afternoon, the final of the Amazon Betting T20 championship (Division 1) was played between GSP7 and SL United.

Winning the toss, GSP7 opted to bowl first and restricted the SL United to a maximum score of 94 runs, dismissing 9 wickets with Sanka (36), Dinesh (22), Mayura (16) and the bowlers of GSP7 ‒ Muthu grabbing 4 wickets, while Kalvin and Rajesh both took 2 wickets each.

Upon chasing, Santhosh Pillay 37 (not out) and Sanil (27) played a responsible innings and sailed the team to win the final.

Bowler Niroshan of SL united took 2 wickets.

Muthu of GSP7 was rewarded as the player-of-the-match.

This was followed by the prize-giving ceremony attended by present members of the Seychelles Cricket Association, past SCA chairmen Ayub Suleman Adam and Ramesh as well as representatives of Amazon Betting.

Best Batsmen: 1. Parthiban (Spartan Warriors) - 169; 2. Gokul Prasanth (Spartan Warriors) - 162 and 3. Sanjeewa (Laskstars A) - 130

Best bowlers: 1. Naresh Jeshani (Patel Youth) - 13 wickets; 2. Rahul Islam (BD Tigers) - 11 wickets and 3. Raghu Janagarajan (Seychelles Rockers) - 11 wickets

Best bowlers: 1. Niroshan (SL United) - 8 wickets, 2. SUPUN (SL United) - 7 wickets and 3. Manish (GsP7s) - 6 wickets

 

Seychelles cricket Association chairman Kaushal Patel thanked the sponsors of all the tournaments. He also congratulated all the players for displaying true sportsmanship and appreciated the work done by the team of tournament directors comprising Deepak Radhakrishnan, Hitesh Hirani and Thiwanka Rajapaksha for running the tournaments successfully.

He also thanked the coordinators of the children cricket ‒ Patrick Thomas and Krishna Naidoo ‒; the women’s cricket coordinators ‒ Sanka and Bhavesh ‒ for their support.
