President Ramkalawan to attend OACPS Summit in Angola and US-Africa Summit in Washington DC |09 December 2022

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan will attend the OACPS Summit in Angola and the US-Africa Summit in Washington DC.

The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), in collaboration with the government of Angola will host the 10th Summit of OACPS heads of State and government in Luanda, from December 6-10, 2022.

The Summit of OACPS heads of State and government is the supreme organ of the Organisation and defines the OACPS’ general policy orientation.

Having as its theme ‘3 Continents, 3 Oceans, 1 Common Destiny: Building a resilient and sustainable OACPS’, the 10th Summit marks the first live meeting of OACPS heads of State since the coming-into-force of the revised Georgetown Agreement in April 2020, the change in leadership at the secretariat and the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

From Angola, President Ramkalawan will proceed to Washington, DC at the invitation of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, who will be hosting leaders from across the African continent for the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit from December 13-15, 2022.

The Summit demonstrates the United States’ enduring commitment to Africa, and will underscore the importance of US-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities.

President Ramkalawan will also engage in various side meetings addressing pertinent topics relevant to Seychelles, small island developing states and the African continent.

The President left the country on December 7 and will be back on December 19, 2022.

During President Ramkalawan’s absence from the country, his duties and responsibilities will be discharged by Vice-President Ahmed Afif.
