Message from Survival Ark Foundation on World Children's Day |22 November 2022

‘Let us include the children as we advocate, promote and celebrate their rights’

“World Children's Day is celebrated annually on November 20. First established as Universal Children's Day in 1954, this day, is an opportunity for the world to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide and improving children's welfare.

“The importance of November 20 cannot be downplayed. On that date in 1954, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and on November 20, 1989 the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. As of 1990, the world has been observing the anniversary of these two important documents.

“World Children's Day is an opportunity for every one of us to ‘advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children’ (https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-childrens-day).

“Nevertheless, as this year's theme encourages, let us include the children as we advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights. It is true that much of what is being done concerning children does not necessarily translate into inclusion of children in the decision-making process, but we need to put our efforts together to make it happen as we need the contributions of all our children as they are future leaders of the world.

“As we observe this day this year, let us make it a matter of importance that we give great considerations to the children, their ideas and their demands and whatever we decide on their behalf is implemented in favour of the children.”
