Anse Boileau secondary school holds certificate presentation ceremony for group leaders

Recently, 23 leaders of Anse Boileau secondary school received their certificates in a short ceremony held at the school after attending a one-week leadership skills workshop during the August holiday.

The workshop was facilitated by Sister Alice Vivien from the Roman Catholic diocese. Present during the ceremony were Father Eric Leon from the Roman Catholic diocese; Roger Alphonse, school council chairperson; Alister Clyah, vice chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association; Sister Alice Vivien; Jina Labiche, head teacher of the school; the participants of the workshop and the staff of Anse Boileau secondary school.

The aim of the workshop wasto give the middle leaders and teachers of the school the opportunity to acquire some essential skills needed to positively influence others and improve performance.During the one-week sessions the participants learned some important basic leadership skills that they can use and incorporate in their daily duties and responsibilities in the school. That would subsequently help them improve on the quality of leadership that they provide to their subordinates and students. In addition, the participants were also given the opportunity to do some self-reflections on some of their daily practices and were able to come up with ways to improve on some of them.

In her address at the ceremony, Mrs Labiche stated that during the workshop they have been able to get to know one another better and managed to do a lot of self-reflections not only on their roles and responsibilities but also on the personalities that they bring to the workplace. She affirmed that “sometimes as we go about our daily business we tend to forget in making available time to get to know our colleagues and provide opportunities for recreational activities as a school.”

She emphasised on the importance of teamwork that should exist in the school and invited all the participants to help cultivate it in others. As a final note to the participants, the head teacher quoted Ronald Reagan who remarked that “The great leader is not necessarily the one who does great things; he is the one who gets people to do great things.”

She concluded by thanking the Roman Catholic Church for allowing Sister Alice Vivien to deliver the leadership skills workshop for the school leaders.

Addressing the participants, Sister Alice Vivien offered them three words that she believes are very important in life as leaders or even as teachers: to believe, to love and to share.

She invited them to always believe in the High Power, to love themselves as they are by seeing their good qualities and to share their knowledge, friendship, time and their listening ear.

Sister Alice also encouraged them to remain that attractive light of the school that shines and that they may be a model for the students. She wished the team much happiness and unity in Anse Boileau secondary school.
