The full text of President Ramkalawan’s message reads:
“Today, October 5, the world comes together to celebrate, give thanks and pay respect to the greatest pillars of our society – our teachers. Seychelles celebrates the 32nd Teachers’ Week under the theme ‘TEACHERS: INSPIRING SUCCESS’. This theme is appropriate given that one of the main responsibilities of teachers is to positively influence the lives of their students.
“This year, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has adopted the theme ‘The transformation of education begins with teachers’. A fitting theme given how boldly our teachers have braved the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in the school and in all facets of their lives. This transformation in itself is testimony of the lifelong commitments of the works of teachers. Today, we honour you the educators for your perseverance and dedication during the critical era of the pandemic and the transformation that you are bringing to our education system.
“Dear Teachers,
“As we take a moment today to recognise your importance to our society, the responsibility bestowed on you to mould the lives of our children cannot be underestimated. Our Dear Teachers, you remain at the centre of education, at the fore-front of teaching and learning and the cornerstone to positive changes within our education system. I salute you for providing emotional and moral support to our children and to your own fellow colleagues while taking care of your own socio-emotional wellbeing and that of your families.
“Despite the challenges, there exist plenty of success stories within this noble profession. As President of the country, I am cognisant of how devoted teachers are. My government has given top priority to education and the modernisation of the education system. It is my hope that all teachers will benefit from all the initiatives.
“No matter our walks of life, we are all the products of the efforts of our teachers. On this great occasion, I call upon every member of our society to join me in saying thank you to our teachers as a way of conveying our respect, affections and gratitude to them. Teaching is an esteemed profession. There is no doubt in my heart that teaching is the mother of all other occupations. Teachers, we are truly proud of you.
“I wish all teachers in Seychelles a Happy Teachers’ Day 2022!”
Wavel Ramkalawan
President of the Republic of Seychelles
