To commemorate the ‘Clean up the World’ campaign’, Airtel Seychelles on Thursday donated 40 bins to the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE).

It was when launching the different Airtel shops that the management of Airtel Seychelles noticed that there was a lack of bins in some major areas in town and popular tourism places. In its effort to help maintain cleanliness around, the communication company decided to make that offer.

The managing director, Amadou Mahamat Dina, noted that Airtel believes in giving back to the people.

“When it comes to the environment we make sure that we educate and help the community understand the importance of keeping Seychelles clean. When the tourists come they have to see a clean Seychelles. This is not the first activity we will be doing with the MACCE and we will continue to support the ministry and community.”

The principal secretary for Environment, Denis Matatiken, thanked Airtel for its thoughtful donation as he said the ministry is doing lots of activities to keep Seychelles clean.

“The government’s main priority is to have a clean Seychelles and we are working a lot on the educational programmes. By engaging the children and youth we are sure that our attitude towards the environment will change. We are grateful to Airtel for these bins that will be handed over immediately to the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA) who will use them where there is a need.”

PS Matatiken seized the opportunity to invite other organisations to come forward with such donations in order to keep Seychelles clean.

The small ceremony took place at the Airtel House at Providence and was attended by staff of Airtel Seychelles and MACCE.
