Anniessa Benstrong reaches round of 16

Local female paddler Anniessa Benstrong has made it to the round of 16 of the women’s singles at the ongoing 2022 International Table Tennis Federation Africa Senior Championship taking place in Algiers, Algeria.

Benstrong’s journey at the competition began in the round of 64 where she eliminated Kailane Sousa of Angola 4-3, before moving to the round of 32 where she disposed of Danisha Patel of South Africa 4-2 to book her spot in the round of 16 where she is scheduled to face off against Egyptian Yousra Helmy.

Seychelles’ other contestant at the championships is Godrey Sultan and he lost his opening match of the men’s singles in the round of 62 – 0-4 – against Salim Karam of Morocco.

In the men’s doubles, Sultan paired up with Malagasy Jonathan Nativel to lose 0-4 against the Ivorian duo of Don Ange Cedric Oba and Oba Kizito Oba.

In the mixed-doubles, Benstrong and Sultan lost 1-3 against Alaa Yehia of Egypt and Youssef Abid of Tunisa in the round of 62.
