Windsurfing–Kitesurfing: Airtel Praslin Slalom – Day 1

The windsurfing and kitesurfing races in full swing

Jean-Marc Gardette and Jean Leopold lead the standing after day one

Windsurfer Jean-Marc Gardette and kitesurfer Jean Leopold are presently leading the standing after the first day of racing, yesterday, at the ongoing Airtel Praslin Slalom which is part of the activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the traditional Mahé-Praslin crossing.

Sponsored by local telecommunication company Airtel Seychelles and gathering surfers from Mauritius, Reunion and Seychelles, the series of windsurfing and kitesurfing which is taking place on Praslin began yesterday, after being postponed on Monday due to unfavourable weather conditions.

In windsurfing, Pralinois Gardette is presently on top on a nett three points, after three first-place finishes and runner-up spot in four races.

Mauritian Julien Maurel is second overall on a nett five points from a first-place, two second-place and a first-place finish.

Pierre Wartelsteiner is presently third overall on a nett eight points from a runner-up spot, two third-place and a fourth-place finish.

Walter Esther is occupying the fourth overall spot on a nett 12 points from three fourth-place finishes, along with a fifth-place finish, ahead of young Jules Kandasamy who finished fifth twice, along with a sixth and seventh-place finish, earning him a nett 16 points.

In kitesurfing, Mauritian Leopold leads the group on a nett three points after winning all four races of the first series.

His compatriot Alain Ricaut is presently second on nett seven points after two second and two third-place finish. Seychellois Bertrand Lablache is third overall, also on a nett seven points from two second-place and a third-place finish.

Rajeev Tevanee of Reunion is fourth on a nett 12 points from four fourth-place finish, ahead fifth-placed Jean jolicoeur of Mauritius who registered a fifth, a sixth and a seventh-place finish, earning him a nett 18 points.

The slalom will continue today with the second series of races.
