ISS hosts staff appreciation awards ceremony |26 July 2022

The International School Seychelles recently celebrated its employees’ dedication to the school with a Staff Appreciation Awards ceremony.  

The event was led by the school’s principal, Elodie Vallantine, and awards were presented by Priscille Chetty, chairperson of the Board of Governors, and Frank Ally, member of the Board of Governors.

The school recognised its long-serving employees, firstly employees with 5 years of service – congratulations to Michel Fideria (maintenance team), Rachel Vidot (teaching assistant), Thelma Jean (cleaner) and Jeanine William (cleaner).

With 10 years of service, Daniella Bibi (Key Stage 4 phase leader) and Jourdanne Dubignon (teaching assistant) were celebrated.

Frida Bastienne (cleaner), Juliette Betsy (teaching assistant), Jerina Chetty (French teacher), Chitra Tennege (inclusion coordinator), Denise Theresine (HR officer) and Mary Uzice (Lower Key Stage 2 phase leader) were recognised for their remarkable 15 years of service.

Having made it to 20 years of service are Vivian Amelie (technician) and Louise Moncherry (Key Stage 1 phase leader).

On the night, the school also presented staff appreciation awards to show its gratitude to hardworking and conscientious staff.

Employee council representatives, being a link between the staff and the senior leadership of the school, were thanked for their efforts with a special award: Juliette Betsy, Corinne Pouponneau, Mayford Lozaique and Sharon Vel.

In recognition of ongoing contribution, dedication to the school, for embodying the school values and continued support and hard work, the following employees were also presented with appreciation awards: Virginia Chiffonne (teaching assistant), Jourdanne Dubignon (teaching assistant), Myra Faure (teaching assistant), Betty Larose (teaching assistant), Sylvie Norah (teaching assistant), Lydianne Jean Louis (primary teacher), Rumbi Katsande (primary teacher), Marie France Laporte (primary teacher), Praxidis Olutwati (primary teacher), Gaetane Valmont (primary teacher), Pamela Canaya (secondary teacher), Beverly Durand (art teacher), Gatsemane Katsande

(secondary teacher, head of department and Duke of Edinburgh coordinator), Doris Nourrice (head of art and performing arts), Edward Howat (Key Stage 3 phase leader), Sharon Arnephy (receptionist procurement assistant), Prabath Hininduma (maintenance officer), Theophile Mousbe (security officer), Paul Onovo (security officer) and Carol Palmyre (accounts officer).

The recipients of the awards were very happy in being appreciated for their devotion, resilience and passion in doing their jobs.

Betty Larose (teaching assistant) commented: “I was shocked. I felt happy on being valued for the work that I have done. It gives me the strength to continue and improve for the coming year.”

The principal of ISS, Elodie Vallantine, also commented: “I am delighted to have been able to reward the staff with those well-deserved awards. ISS staff are committed to their job in maintaining the highest standards of education for the pupils in our care. I am very proud to lead a team of employees who always put our pupils first and live by our school values of passion, determination, integrity, respect and tolerance, optimism and community.”
