AB Boys stun leaders Cascade Bullets to stretch unbeaten run

  • Mont Fleuri Ballerz collect first league win

AB Boys are still unbeaten in the league, stretching their winning streak to five matches after defeating leaders Cascade Bullets 55-50 on Wednesday at Victoria Gymnasium, leapfrogging Anse Etoile into second position, while Mont Fleuri recorded their first win of the season by beating Anse Royale 41-30 on Tuesday.

Entering Wednesday’s encounter, both selections were still unbeaten in the league, with Cascade Bullets leading the standings on 10 points from five wins, while AB Boys were third on eight points from four victories in as many matches.

Cascade Bullets, receiving instructions from former player Biko Biong, started the match on a higher momentum, winning the first two quarters 18-14 and 10-9 for 28-23 half-time lead.

They also had the upper-hand in the third quarter, slightly winning it 12-11 for a 40-34 lead at the end of the period.

In the fourth and final quarter, AB Boys managed to turn things around and outscorethe Bullets 21-10 to steal a 55-50 win, stretching their unbeaten run to five matches.

They now have 10 points and lie second behind leaders the Bullets who have collected 11 points after six matches played.

With 21 points contributed, Franchesco Boniface was AB Boys’ top scorer, while captain Eddy Biong led the score for Cascade Bullets with 17 points.

After four consecutive defeats in as many matches, Mont Fleuri Ballerz finally tasted victory, beating Anse Royale to temporarily move into ninth place on the league table.

Ballerz won the first two quarters 11-7 and 16-13, leading Anse Royale 27-20 at half-time.

They managed to score six more points in the third quarter, extending their lead to 33-20 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth and final period, Anse Royale came out stronger to win 10-8, but thanks to their advantage built from the previous three periods, Mont Fleuri Ballerz managed to hold on to their lead, winning the match41-30.

The Ballerz are now occupying ninth position on five points from a single win and three defeats, pushing Praslin Boys – with a match in hand – to the bottom on four points from a win and two defeats in three matches.

Anse Royale, on the other hand, remain fourth overall on nine points collected from three wins and three losses out of six matches played.

Juan Romain scored the most points for the Ballerz – 10 – while Leroy Morel was Anse Royale’s top scorer with nine points.
