NGOs and CSOs learn more about the ‘Ocean’s Resolve’ programme
Non-governmental and civil society organisations came together this week for a stakeholder consultation meeting to learn more about the ‘Ocean’s Resolve’ programme.
The session, held at the Savoy Resort and Spa, was facilitated by Stefan de Greling, fundraising & partnerships manager at SeyCCAT (Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust), supported by other SeyCCAT staff.
Chief executive of SeyCCAT, Marie-May Jeremie, explained the project to the stakeholders: “In April 2022, SeyCCAT was selected as Convening Agent by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) to lead the design of a new coral reef conservation programme in the Seychelles. The GFCR Theory of Change (TOC) expects comprehensive, participative, inclusive and integrated programmes that address four outcomes: Protection of priority coral reef sites including climate ‘refugia’; Transformation of the livelihoods of coral reef-dependent communities and sectors; Restoration of coral reefs through new technologies and adaptive approaches and recovery of coral reef-dependent communities in the face of major shocks and insecurity.”
The estimated anticipated GFCR investment in the forthcoming ‘Ocean’s Resolve’ programme is approximately US $7 million over 7 years, with a requirement to leverage at least four times that amount ($30-$40 million) in coral-positive impact investments in the Seychelles over the same time period.
SeyCCAT’s mandate as Convening Agent is to mobilise a wide and representative cross-sector partnership that has widespread stakeholder backing to lead the design and launch of the Seychelles ‘Ocean’s Resolve’ programme through a programme development phase (PDP) lasting from June to August 2022.
The aim of this workshop is to submit a full programme funding proposal to GFCR by the end of August 2022, which should secure approval for funding from the GFCR Board in September 2022, with an anticipated programme start-up in October 2022.
This stakeholder consultation workshop is part of series of local sector-specific stakeholder consultations in the initial stages of the PDP; other stakeholder consultations will target the non-profit NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and CSOs (civil society organisations), as well as private sector for-profit businesses and enterprises.
The main objectives of this government and public sector institutions stakeholder consultation workshop are as follows:
1) Inform government agencies and public sector mandated institutions about the: a) GFCR Call for Proposals (CfP); b) SeyCCAT’s Concept Note for the ‘Ocean’s Resolve’ programme approved by the GFCR Board; c) Forthcoming GFCR Programme Development Phase (June – August 2022).
2) Record and capture any suggestions and recommendations regarding programmatic objectives, scope, scale, partners, priorities, design and operationalisation that may be voiced by workshop participants.
3) Note any suggestions and recommendations about follow-up actions that may need to be taken by the proposal team during the Programme Design Phase (PDP).
The participants were able to have a proper discussion on the subject and also gave their recommendations.
