President Danny Faure extends message of condolence to Gambia |31 August 2019
Upon learning of the passing of Gambia’s founding father, Dawda Kairaba Jawara, President Danny Faure has extended a message of condolence to Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of Gambia.
President Faure expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the President, the family and friends of Mr Jawara and to the people of Gambia, describing the late leader as “an icon of Gambia’s struggle for independence and liberation.”
President Faure further added that Mr Jawara as a leader “committed his life in the advancement of strong values of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and patriotism, which led his beloved country on a path of success and prosperity.”
Mr Jawara was Gambia's first post-independence president and he led the tiny West African country for 24 years before being deposed in a 1994 coup. He was 95 years old.
