STC reviews list of semi essential commodities |27 April 2022
In line with the government’s commitment to reduce the cost of living in Seychelles, the Seychelles Trading Company Limited continues to shield in its various initiatives which will further benefit its customers and the entire population at large.
Among the various proposals approved recently by the Cabinet of Ministers are:
‒ a revision/review of prices of Seychelles Trading Company Limited’s (STC) category 1 portfolio of products.
The prices of STC’s 14 basic household commodities have remained unchanged over the past 10 years. Despite its various challenges, STC makes available year-round these products at affordable prices to both locals and visitors as well as the various business communities/entities e.g., retailers, hotels, institutions etc.
Albeit all indications have shown that the prices will continue to fluctuate on these category 1 products, STC remains committed to its core mandate to make available these basic products, hence ensuring food security for the country.
‒ a price reduction on several other essential products for Seychellois families.
STC has reviewed a comprehensive list of products which are also considered as essential commodities (often known as semi essential or category 2 products). These are products such as toothpaste, pasta, cleaning detergents and baby care products among other varieties which will now see a reduction in prices; complimenting the existing range of affordable products at STC. Customers will see up to 5 percent reduction on their overall end-of-month shopping basket.
This initiative is a continuation and part of a transitional process for STC, as part of its ongoing business strategies to review its business model so as to deliver more efficiently on its core mandate.
The new prices on both categories of products are expected to take effect as of Sunday May 1, 2022.
